Question by Mercury: How soon after I start yoga will I be able to feel results?
When starting a new fitness activity, it’s natural to wish for immediate results. Once I make yoga a part of my weekly routine, how soon should I expect to feel the benefits?

I felt ‘results’ ten minutes after I started.
I didn’t LIKE the ‘results’ I felt, but I sure as hell felt them.

with Yoga you will feel the instant result of RELAXATION, but if you are talking about toning your body I would think it will show after about 2 month (if you do 3x a week yoga)
Your bowel movements will tell you. If the involuntary bowel movements stop, then you’re progressing. The next plateau is a reduction of other rectal emissions. Post-rectal discharge should also change in pungency, and become sweeter.
It depends on what results you are hoping for. You will feel better after your first class. It helps with anxiety, too. You may even feel a little sore. If you are going for flexibility, you will see marked improvement in about six classes. If you are going for tone, then you’d see results faster with pilates. If you are trying to get so strong that you can balance your entire body weight on the tip of one finger while balancing on the tippy top of Mount Everest and singing a Tibetan chant while drinking a Grande Triple Shot Soy Late with Sugar-Free Hazelnut…. then that’s going to take many, many years…..
The more classes you take, the more results you will see. I do yoga four times a week. I started out with two, then gradually added on. After a year, I had the results I wanted. That was 12 years ago. I don’t always go to the classes, but I do it at home at the very least. It is an important part of my life.
You will feel the results within the first couple of days, you will see the results in six to eight weeks.
It generally takes about 4 to 6 weeks of regular exercise at least 3 days a week for your body to begin to release the endorphins that make exercise such an uplifting experience.
Consistency is key. If you want to reap the benefits that yoga provides, you’ll have to do it consistently…
A once-a-month yoga workout may relieve some stress, but for benefits like increased flexibility and stamina, you should aim to practice yoga three or four times a week.
Yoga is amazing even if you only practice for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.
If you can do more than that, you will certainly experience more benefits…
I suggest starting with two or three times a week, for an hour or an hour and a half each time. If you can only do 20 minutes per session, that’s fine too.
Don’t let time constraints or unrealistic goals be an obstacle do what you can and don’t worry about it. You will likely find that after awhile your desire to practice expands naturally and you will find yourself doing more and more.
soon as it starts to hurt.
I would say it’s like what they say about quitting smoking. Certain things start to become healthier right away and that continues for months.
During and thereafter in the first or second session you may feel relaxed. More toned. Maybe a little sore. More limber.
After 3 sessions you should feel even better. At this point you should FEEL the benefits.
After 2 weeks is when you will for sure feel and see more of a difference in your body and posture. At this point you will begin to SEE the benefits, as well.
Keep it up!
It really depends where you are starting from and the intensity of the yoga exercises.
you will definitely feel something the next day.
Yoga is like a way of life hence its results take time to be felt and more so its results are bound to change ur lifestyle too…so be prepared for a lot of changes….a little slowly though!!
you will feel better ust after exercise. And you can feel the difference by skipping one day. If you are doing for some purpose say diabetes, height , weight
it may take time from at least 15 days.
the thing is when you start doing yoga under the guidance of a experienced and able teacher [guru] then it may take about 15 days to really see the changes NO really FEEL the changes taking place inside as well as outside of your body. this answer i write here from my experience.
Well, several years ago, I went to Tai Chi classes in really early in the morning following a 2 hours session of yoga. Thing is it really relaxes me and relieves my stress in a few hours. Since because i was tired and sweaty I had to rest. So i guess it depends on your body and how active you are.
relaxation is one of the main purpose of yoga this relaxation, u can get it immediately but as for as weight reduction, headache, muscle pain etc… are concerned it will take a bit long time but very effective result than any other thing
I felt the results that afternoon. NEVER do yoga and weight training on the same day.
But I started seeing the benefits pretty quickly. I became more aware of my body and posture. Once I got in the habit of walking with my feet pointed forward (I was pigeon-toed) and standing straight, my back started feeling a lot better.
I do poses every morning and I have to say, I like the way it makes me feel.
I was thinking same when started practicing YOGA. I think it will start showing u results in a month and u will start feeling better than ever before.
For that u need to do practice YOGA on routine basis and without any interval.
Simply it can do anything, if u practice in proper way.
You will feel a difference already after a few days when doing it progressively but every day. After three weeks you’ll feel a whole lot more flexible and strong. After six weeks you will notice a dramatic change in the way you feel compared to before.
It will depend on your body condition to start with as well as cautious deligent regular practice. It is possible to get negative results if you try to go too fast and get discouraged. Take it slow and watch your body’d reactions carefully as you increase your practice sessions. Any negative reaction like headache, muscle pulling, pain in the lungs or chest, immediately back off and stop practice and wait till you recover fully. Then start over cautiously, knowing where you rushed through last time.
Actually you will be better off not worrying about a time table until you feel comfortable doing yoga exercises.
Yoga means much more than just a Fitness Activity! The word Yoga itself means to join, unite or merge. Derived from the sanskrit root yuj, Yoga is a science and an art. Practiced by thousands of people round the world, it integrates the body with the mind and the mind with the soul, thereby helping us to understand or own natures and to live harmoniously with people around us. Some people are aware of Yoga as the Asanas and meditation. In fact, I think it’s an eight fold path called Ashtanga Yoga (eight limbs).
To Know the Eight commandments, read here on my Statesman Blog.
Yoga is all about Attitudes and even we focus on one of the commandments, we could bring about a lot of difference!
It should be immediate but the satisfaction will build over time. But the benefits are less to be felt than experienced.
Very systematic practice for two months, from my experience, will definitely feel the results. You must concentratye in the particular asanas which are meant for that particular purposes.
Hello,Well its a very good question.I would like to inform that whatever be the excercise instant gratification and results are next to impossible.
For sure if you make it a part of your weekly regimen the nerves and the muscles will feel a little strenuous. With passage of time you will feel that your muscles are becoming more flexible but then to stay in the aasana and to maintain your breathing might not come instantly.
With little more consistent practising you will find it all only to keep in mind everyday practise.
Also to inform that in the beginning you for sure will feel the sense of achievment and this for sure will be the first indication that its working.
cheerz and Enjoy,
You can get the immediate results as far as your fitness concern.
God created human beings with muscles, bones etc, it should be used regularly in all aspects. If it is not used there will be a physical problems which leads to a mental disorder. Yoga is a very simple process that it will make your all parts of body to do some sort of movements, so blood will be circulated accordingly.
u can start it befor your meal or its best if u do it in morning
You will feel results immediately, about an hour after you start. You will feel a lot of pain throughout your body! At least that is how i felt. But after 3-4 lessons you will start to feel the benefits, like stretching, strengthening, etc.
Yoga is not about results or instant gratification. It is not about movement. Yoga is about awareness.
Yoga means “unity.”
Therefore, as soon as you become centered on your mat & set your intention, be it for yourself, someone, a cause or an event, then you have a result.
If you want the science of movement, try tai chi or spinning class.
“Yoga is the science of action, not the science of movement.” – BKS Iyengar
MANY FACTORS DEPEND ON YOU. I LIKE KUNDALINI YOGA BEST AND FOUND THAT THE RESULTS WERE VERY REFRESHING FROM THE START – UNLIKE WESTERN EXERCISES WHICH TEND TO WEAR ME DOWN AT FIRST. BUT THIS TYPE OF YOGA REQUIRES ONE TO EXPERIENCE AND PASS THROUGH A VALLEY OF PAIN. IT WAS A BIG VALLEY, BUT WOW, THE RESULTS WERE SENSATIONAL AND PERMANANT! GOOD LUCK.
Yoga, its very exercise for human body.
Once you make yoga a part of your weekly routine that time you feel
hold day is very fresh all the time.
On your face glow is incrase compare before yoga your face.
in yoga —pranayam is the best part of the yoga beacuse it remove all decease from your body.
within a couple of minutes, bt if u’ll do it regularly, u ‘ll get d results,
To have the results, it takes about 30 days
Instantly you will get relaxation and refreshen. But you should it regularly to keep up relaxation.
if you love any body how do you propose
Since you mention “fitness activity” in your question, I assume the results you’re looking for are better muscle tone, strength and flexibility. These are not the only benefits of yoga, and as many other answers have pointed out, they are not the main purpose of yoga, either. Yoga was created to help practitioners become present in every moment of their life.
Still, you want exercise, so how fast will you get “results?” What style of yoga are you practicing, how long are the practice sessions and how often are you practicing? You mention weekly. If you’re only doing yoga once a week, you should receive some stress reduction benefit immediately, and see some other exercise-type benefits in 6-8 weeks.
If you want to lose weight and you’re not doing any other type of “exercise”, you need to practice a minimum of 3 times per week, for at least an hour, and you need to do a style of yoga which includes “vinyasas” also knows as “sun salutes.” There has been a lot written about yoga, and many claim you can’t lose weight doing it, but I lost about 35 lbs doing no other “exercise” and without dieting either. Practicing 3-5 times per week, it took me almost two years to lose the weight, but I wanted a change that would last and it did. I started yoga as exercise, to lose weight and to get stronger (I was already very flexible.) I got all the results I wanted and many more–my ability to concentrate improved, my stress was greatly reduced and eventually I became much more awake–present in each moment. Yoga definitely changed my life.
If you’re younger when you start practicing yoga, it’s easier, but don’t be discouraged if you’re not. I didn’t take my first class until I was 42 and I’ve had many students who didn’t start until much later than that.
after few days
if you are overweight yoga will not help you…cardio will. yoga is for thin people that need to get toned …. you will most likely not feel the benefits if you are overweight if you arent than it may take as little as ten minutes.
immediately after you can breathe better, the correct yoga way. i practice yoga breathing now in most activities i do
Yoga is stretching. How much you are in shape will determine how long it will take to feel some results. If you are very much out of shape, you will feel pain as you do the stretching so you would feel it immediately. If you are in pretty good shape, it will take longer.
i’m italian , my engllish is not so well.

If by results you mean relaxation, then you will feel them perhaps an hour after the class. If you are looking to get into shape, my recommendation would be to take a hot yoga class and work out in addition to the class(perhaps a run) for best results, because after hot yoga you will feel extremely energized.
Yoga is a process which requires full dedication from your mind and body. Like if you are not relaxed in your mind and just wanted to do it like a routine basis it won’t help you a lot.
If u really dedicate yourself with it, you will get instant results in the sense of relaxation, peace in mind and ability to concentrate more efficiently. However if you want physical benefits it will definetly take some time. Also, if you talk about general problems like gas in stomach and like these, definetly you will get rid of problem within 1 week span.
morever, i would say keep on doing and you will surely see the benefits. Its a win-win deal.
With in a week, with in a month or with in a year depends how serious u r about yoga and if u do it weekly, it’ll take months to feel the benefit. To feel it u have to do it on a daily basis for at least half an hour and within few days (4-5) u’ll see change in yourself.
1. If you are sincere and doing it under guidance of guru you will start finding the results after a month.
2. It aslo depends on your diet all togather. If you control your diet as per the guidance. you can find it even faster.
Depending on your health, age & flexability, 3-8 weeks for basic stretches. Immediate results depending on your mental clarity & focus.
depends how much serious u about it.
The best results come over time.
That depends upon your goal. You may feel relaxed after one week (4 times a week). For body toning 3 months. For treating a particular disease or physical weakness(like impotence or stomach problem)) may take 6 to 8 months. Do not expect miracle to happen overnight. Also,in the beginning learn from the professional. If you are looking for real mental peace consider VIPASANA OR VIPASYANA. It is amazing. Good luck.
six months and still awiting for me and some of my friends
wow this stuff takes awhile, I even got a new mat!
If the regime and technique of yoga is correct results occur within days at Body level.
as soon as u get more sleep
start taking regular deep breaths
have a lower heart beat
these things can start the night after one sesssion but average I’d say a week for full effect
