Stress is part of our everyday lives. It’s not possible to completely avoid it. However, there are ways in which you can manage your stress and keep it from disrupting your health.
One of the simplest ways, which is a much ignored way of beating stress, is to focus on deep breathing.
Deep breathing is simple, easy and can be practiced by anyone without much effort or needing any equipment. It’s the best way to relax even while you’re at work. Since it’s an automatic bodily function, many don’t think it would help beat your stress. However many studies have proved that it does.
Deep breathing is easy, but requires some practice. It needs to be done slowly and steadily and you need to breathe from the diaphragm. Controlling your breathing will take you some time till you can start doing it involuntarily. Try by doing it once every day.
You can start by placing your hands on your stomach and chest and monitor your breathing. Ensure that the hand on your stomach rises more than the hand on your chest while inhaling. Continue too inhale and hold for about seven counts.
Exhale through your mouth once you’re done counting seven and release your breath gently contracting your belly muscles. This would ensure that all the air from your lungs is expelled out.
To exhale completely do it slowly and gradually over eight counts. This should ensure that all the air from your lungs is expelled out.
Complete the whole cycle of inhaling and exhaling at least four times. Keep your thoughts and emotions positive while you’re doing it or you could say a positive word while inhaling and a negative one while exhaling. This would help you enhance your relaxation and calm you mind and keep it stress free.
